Message from Ambassador Hatanaka

I wish to express my deepest gratitude to the Government of Rwanda and its people as well as members of the international community for all the sympathy, contribution, and good wishes after the Tohoku district -off the Pacific Ocean Earthquake that occurred on the 11th March. I thank you all for your sincere support and for your friendship with Japan in this difficult time.

My condolences go to those who lost their family members, their homes and have to struggle for their lives at the evacuation centres. With thousands still missing as the tsunami struck along the coast in Tohoku district, both the domestic and international search and rescue teams are speeding up their operations. Right now, the world is witnessing the ongoing events at the Fukushima nuclear power plants where Nuclear Emergency Situation has been declared. The government of Japan together with Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), the operator of the power plants, are taking every measure to avoid the meltdown and minimise the damage while trying hard to provide accurate information in a timely manner as no speculation is needed in an emergency. For further information, please see the links below.

I hope to see the hardship felt by all those affected come to an end as soon as possible and the Japanese resilience to emerge stronger than ever. Again I would like to express my appreciation for your swift support which will be in the hearts and thoughts of Japanese people forever.

Kunio Hatanaka
Ambassador
