In September 2018, Japan dispatched a Triathlon coach named Mr. Yoshiaki YOMANAKA to Rwanda in order to contribute to train and improve the competitiveness of athletes through the Olympic Solidarity Programmes. While in Rwanda, he recognized that there was a shortage of equipment at the federation. With his recommendation and the request of RTF, Japan Triathlon Union (JTU) decided to donate equipment and approached the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan to ship the equipment to Rwanda.
Ambassador IMAI said in his speech, “Japan promotes sports diplomacy for the contribution towards enhancement of international mutual understanding. This year is a special year, since the Embassy of Japan in Rwanda celebrates the 10th anniversary of its opening, in addition Japan hosts the Olympic and Paralympic Games. I am delighted to have realized this donation to RTF this year and I hope that the RTF will make good use of the equipment.”
Alexis Mbaraga, President of RTF, said, "this equipment encourages the athletes to realize better performance and it will allow us to promote triathlon in Rwanda. I would like to appreciate Japan’s donation of the equipment.”
Guy RURANGAYIRE, Director of Sports in the Ministry of Sports said, “I would like to thank JTU and the Embassy of Japan in Rwanda. And I appreciate the cooperation between JTU and RTF.”
