On 7th September 2011, the opening ceremony of Kayonza modern secondary school took place in Eastern Province. Eight (8) classrooms with desks and chairs funded by the Government of Japan were handed over.  The new classrooms will enable the number of students per class to be balanced which will improve the learning environment for the targeted students. Ambassador Hatanaka in his congratulatory address said that he expects that the facility will contribute to human resource development of the country and encouraged the students to study harder. Mr. Boniface Ntirenganya, the Director of Planning in Eastern Province, appreciated the timely support from the Government of Japan as the 9 year basic education programs are recently introduced and more classrooms are needed.
