Main activity

On 28th February, Mr Mikio Mori, deputy chief of mission of the Embassy of Japan to the Republic of Burundi signed two grassroots human security grant contracts (GGP) for a total amount of more than USD 166 000. IDPR association will receive USD 97 420 to expand Gihinda Primary School in Bujumbura rural and Lumiere Pour Tous association will be awarded USD 69 135 to improve health care quality in Kinama, through the purchase of medical equipment.

 

The Grant Signing Ceremony was held in JICA office in Bujumbura, with the attendance of the two association’s representatives and Mr Ezechiel Nibigira, Member of Parliament. During their speeches, the organization representatives expressed their sincere gratitude to the Government of Japan for assisting them to solve the problems affecting their communities. Mr Ernest Ndayishimiye, Lumiere Pour Tous legal representative, explained the needs and challenges they are facing to improving health care access in Kinama and Mr Isaac Ndayisenga, IDPR Association legal representative, described the current conditions of Gihinda primary school and assured of the local community involvement in the project. Mr Ezechiel Nibigira, member of parliament, described the long recovering journey that Burundi is facing after a devastating civil war and was pleased to see the good results of the cooperation between Japan and Burundi

In his speech, Mr Mori expressed his sincere condolences to the victims of the heavy floods which occurred 3 weeks before. In solidarity with the people of Burundi, the government of Japan sent emergency relief goods worth 120 000 USD just after the tragedy. Mr Mori then congratulated the two associations for qualifying to receive this competitve grant and encouraged them to manage the fund well and complete the projects in good time.
