Support for Rwandan Returnees through IOM: Signing ceremony and launching ceremony for trainings for trainers (August 9th and 14th)

On August 9th, Ambassador Ogawa attended the signing ceremony between Ministry of Disaster Management and Refugee Affairs (MIDIMAR) and IOM concerning cooperation agreement on the project of “Enhancing Socio-Economic Reintegration Opportunities for Rwandan Returnees and Other Vulnerable Groups through Market-Oriented Skills training, including Community Development Support 2013”. This project involves, assessing the labour and skills market opportunities, and strengthening government capacity to ensure effective reintegration of returnees and community development. The project was funded by the Government of Japan in the Japanese fiscal year 2012 with the total amount of three million U.S. dollars aiming at promoting sustainable reintegration for about 5,000 Rwandan returnees and other vulnerable community members. 1,500 beneficiaries out of 5,000 will receive vocational skills trainings, the other 1,500 will receive livestock assistance and the remaining 2,000 will be provided tith construction materials to improve their housing facilities.

On August 14th, Ambassador also attended the launching ceremony of the workshop called “Training of Trainers from Skills Training Institutions” organized by IOM. The workshop was held for one week to train selected 184 trainers who will in turn impart the acquired skills to 1,500 selected returnees and vulnerable members of the host communities in Rwanda. The training focuses on improving teaching skills and providing advanced training techniques for effective adult learning, to ensure that the highest standards and best practices are maintained, and the beneficiaries can be self-employed. Trainers were trained on skill such as carpentry, welding, knitting, tailoring, mechanics, and masonry and so forth. Ambassador said to the beneficiaries attending the ceremony to maximize the acquired knowledge in the near future and he promised to continue working closely with the Government of Rwanda for further development of the country.
