Opening Ceremony for Peace Support Operations (PSO) Logistics Course at Rwanda Peace Academy (August 31st, 2015)

On August 31st, Mr. Sakamoto, Counselor at the Embassy of Japan, attended the opening ceremony for Peace Support Operations (PSO) Logistics Course at Rwanda Peace Academy (RPA), Musanze District, Northern Province. 33 people from seven countries, namely Rwanda, Burundi, Comoros, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan and Uganda, joined the course. This course is conducted with the funds from the Government of Japan through UNDP Rwanda. In addition to this course, the funds would be utilized for activities such as conducting five more training courses, procurement of a mini-bus to transport the course participants, developing a Five-Year Strategic Plan for RPA, and enhancing capacity of RPA to conduct research through recruitment of a Senior Researcher and Strategic Advisor.

In his remarks, Mr. Sakamoto said that “Japan appreciates the continuous efforts for peace and security in the region including Eastern Africa Standby Force. I am sure RPA will play a vital role for further development of the regional and sub-regional capacity for conflict prevention, management, resolution, post-conflict recovery and peace building, by drawing on Rwanda’s extensive experience in peace building and international best practices.” The representative of the Government of Rwanda expressed gratitude for Japan’s continuous support to RPA.
