Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Project (GGP): Inauguration of Construction of the Facility of Water Supply in Gifumba (Oct 29, 2015)
On October 29th, the inauguration ceremony of the project by the Association Rwandaise pour le Developpement Endogene (ARDE/KUBAHO), entitled “Construction of the facility of water supply in Gifumba” took place in Nyamabuye sector, Muhanga District, Southern Province. The project funded by the Government of Japan consists of constructing one 20 cubic meter reservoir tank, four water kiosks, one water tap for livestock, and water pipeline. Moreover, participatory operational, and hygiene and sanitation trainings for the community were conducted. With the facility, more than 1,500 people in the community are now able to have safe water.
Mr. Sakamoto, Counsellor of the Embassy said in his remarks, “I expect that this facility will contribute to the community’s well-being and sustainable development, and we are very proud to be part of Rwandan efforts to accomplish one of their goals to provide safe water for all.” The representative of ARDE appreciated the support from the Government of Japan, and expressed the importance of water by quoting a Rwandan slogan “Water is life and sanitation is our dignity!” He also said this project not only improves access to clean water, but also changes the history of Gifumba community. The district Executive Secretary also thanked the Government of Japan for its support and all other partners, and promised the District’s and its community’s commitment for sustainable maintenance and proper use of the facility.
