Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Project (GGP): Inauguration of Construction of Dormitory at Peace International School (Nov 4, 2015)

On November 4th, the inauguration ceremony of the project by Peace International School (PIS), entitled “Construction of Dormitory at Peace International School” took place in Busasamana sector, Nyanza District, Southern Province. The project funded by the Government of Japan consists of constructing one dormitory hall with toilets and shower rooms and one dining hall, and installing two water tanks and fifty beds. With this facility, the school is able to provide quality education and care for a 100 children who could not commute to the school.

Ambassador Ota said in his remarks, “From the time Bishop Mugabo opened his own house in 2002 to provide primary education for children in need, Peace International School has produced about 1,000 graduates. Our first collaboration in 2009 enabled PIS to construct a school in Nyanza with six classrooms which allowed the school to receive not only Rwandan but also Congolese and Burundian refugee children. This time, by constructing accommodation facility, the school is able to receive more children from a broader area. We, Japanese people are very happy to be part of these efforts, and I believe that the children will learn well and assure their future.” The chairman of PIS appreciated the continued support and advice by the Government of Japan and all other partners, and promised that PIS will receive 60 vulnerable children from Kigali and 20 refugee children from neighboring refugee camps every year. The representative of Nyanza District expressed his appreciation to the people of Japan and requested the school and the community to provide quality education, and promised the District’s support.
