Signing Ceremony for the Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) (1st December, 2015)

On 1st December, the Embassy signed two contracts amounting up to 165,250 USD under the scheme of the Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) with Association Rwandaise pour le Developpement Rural (ARDR) and Movement for the Fight against Hunger in the World (MLFM). ARDR plans to expand the school classrooms for the Group Scolaire of Gahengeri in Gahengeri Sector, Rwamagana District. This project will use $82,198 to construct 6 classrooms with the instalment of 138 sets of desk and chair as well as 2 water tanks. The project aims to reduce the number of students per classroom and improves learning environment for 1,790 students. This will accordingly contribute to reduce the number of dropouts. MLFM will rehabilitate and expand two aqueducts in Gicumbi and Gatsibo Districts. Through this project of $83,052, 54 fountains, 2 filtration systems and 15 reservoir tanks will be rehabilitated. This will improve access to safe and clean water for more than 15,000 people in the targeted area together with operational trainings for the beneficiaries.

Mr. Sakamoto, Chargé d’affaires a.i of the Embassy, said in his remarks that since the framework of GGP was established between MINAFFET and the Embassy of Japan in 1996, the Government of Japan has supported grass roots activities for the amount of about 6 million US dollars for 83 projects so far. He also congratulated the two recipient organizations and said both projects are expected to help Rwanda achieve not only some Sustainable Development Goals but also Vision 2020 and EDPRS 2. Mr. Jean Munyurangabo, Executive Director of ARDR expressed his gratitude for the continuous partnership with the Government of Japan since the organization received its first GGP funding five years ago which supported more than 5,000 vulnerable women. He also guaranteed the successful implementation of the new project for the children. Mr. Omar Fiordalisio, Country Manager of MLFM appreciated the support for such a vast and important project, and promised the successful execution. He concluded his remarks by citing the motto of MLFM “Water is source of life”.
