Visit of Dr. Tanaka, President of JICA (8th to 10th January, 2015)

 From 8th to 10th January, Dr. Akihiko Tanaka, President of JICA visited Rwanda.  During his stay, he met H.E. Mr. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic and Rwandan high level Government officials, and visited several Japanese ODA project sites as well as the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center.

 On 8th, Dr. Tanaka paid a courtesy call on Hon. Gatete, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning and Hon. Mushikiwabo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, and exchanged views on Japanese Assistance to Rwanda.  He also met experts and volunteers dispatched by JICA.

  On 9th, Dr. Tanaka was received in audience by H.E. Mr. Paul Kagame, the President of the Repblic.  This was the second time that Dr. Tanaka met the President since the TICAD V held in June 2013.  Both of them were glad to see each other again, and exchanged views on how to further strengthen the bilateral relationship.  He also visited Kigali Genocide Memorial, “k-Lab” which is an open space for supporting service and product development using ICT, and Tumba College of Technology (TCT).  In the evening, Dr. Tanaka attended a dinner hosted by Ambassador Ogawa at his residence with Hon. Mushikiwabo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and Dr. Murigande, Ambassador of Rwanda to Japan, and discussed several issues including regional situations.

 On 10th, Dr. Tanaka visited the site of “the Project for Construction of Rusumo International Bridge and One Stop Border Post (OSBP) Facilities” and attended the Completion Ceremony with Ambassador Ogawa.  He also visited the site of “the Project for Rural Water Supply 2”, as well as activities of the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV).
