Graduation Ceremony of IPRC North/Tumba College of Technology
On 26th February, the Third Graduation Ceremony was held at the Tumba College of Technology (TCT), presided over by Principal Gatabazi, and Mr. Sakamoto, Counsellor of the Embassy attended the ceremony. At the ceremony, 476 students graduated. As the guest of honor, Mr. John Bonds Bideri, Chairman, Board of Directors of Work Development Authority (WDA) with Mr. Jerome Gasana, Director General of WDA, participated as well. Many parents and families were in attendance, and Rwandan traditional dance were performed, so the ceremony was held with great éclat. Mr. Sakamoto said in his remarks that standing here in front of these young and ambitious graduates who have completed their courses in Electronics and Telecommunication, Information Technology and Alternative Energy, he is certain that their contribution to the development of Rwanda through all these disciplines will be very valuable.
The Government of Rwanda gives high priority on human resource development in the field of science and technology in order to meet the strategic Vision 2020, which aims at a knowledge-based economy. Japan implemented “The Project for Strengthening the Capacity of Tumba College of Technology Phase 1” from 2007 to 2012, with a purpose of becoming an effective institution that provides practical technical education and training relevant to industrial and social needs. After the completion of Phase 1, the “Project for Strengthening the Capacity of Tumba College of Technology Phase 2” started in 2013 to make effective approach for improving TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training Programme) in Rwanda by focusing on enhancement of system for offering practical technical education, and school operation capacity.
