Completion ceremony of the Project for Improvement of Substation and Distribution Network (25th March, 2014)

On March 25th, Ambassador Ogawa attended the completion ceremony of the Project for Improvement of Substation and Distribution Network. This project was a three-year-project to rehabilitate and re-construct old substations as well as to restore and expand distribution network in order to improve a stable electricity access and supply. The implementations of the project were held in five areas in Rwanda, namely Jabana and Gikondo, Rwinkwavu, Huye and Musha with the total amounting to 25 million US dollars.

The ceremony was held in Musha substation in Rwamagana district, Eastern Province. Ambassador Ogawa said in his speech that the Government of Japan has been contributing through grant aid and technical assistance to economic infrastructure development that is one of the important pillars of Vision 2020 and EDPRS2 aiming to transform Rwanda into a middle income country. Hon. Isumbingabo, Minister of State in charge of Energy and Water, appreciated the support of Japan and said that there was great need for stable supply of power because of the population increase over the years. The upgraded voltage will provide a stable supply of power.
