Umuganda-Participation in the community service work, 30th November 2013
On 30th November, Ambassador Ogawa and Mrs. Ogawa took part in “Umuganda (Community Service Work)” organized by JICA Alumni Association of Rwanda (JAAR).
In Rwanda, there is a day for community service work in the morning of the last Saturday of each month called Umuganda. On the day of Umuganda, people in community get together and work for the community such as cleaning streets, cutting grass, planting trees, repairing public road and facilities, building houses for vulnerable people in a community and others. Afterwards, people sit together to evaluate the work which have been done on that day and discuss various issues in community including next activities. Umuganda is beneficial not only for economic effect but also for reinforcement of social cohesion in community.
Ambassador took part in Umuganda in Gahanga Sector in Kicukiro District for planting trees, together with Hon. S. Mukantabana, Minister of Disaster Management and Refugee Affairs and Mr. Paul J. Ndamage, Mayor of Kicukiro District.
