Courtesy Call by JOCV volunteers and their parents,

20th October 2010

On 20th October, eight Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) and their parents paid a courtesy call on H.E. Ambassador Hatanaka. During the meeting, the Ambassador expressed his gratitude to the visiting parents saying that it is a great pleasure to have such dedicated volunteers contributing to the friendship between Rwanda and Japan through various activities in this country. The Ambassador also said that he was encouraged by the volunteers’ endeavor despite some hardships they must be facing in their respective places, and assured them of the Embassy’s full support. The parents commented that they had always been wondering in what kind of place their children were working, all impressions they had about Rwanda derived from the films, but now that they came to Kigali, they were utterly impressed by its development and the cleanness of the city. They also told how they felt so proud to see their children working alongside the Rwandans communicating in Kinyarwanda. JOCV programme has been active since before the opening of the Embassy, and been playing one of the important roles in Japan’s economic cooperation.

The Embassy, in collaboration with JICA Rwanda Office, fully supports these volunteers so that they can fulfill their duties safely.
