Main activity |
The handing over ceremony of ABUBEF reproductive health care center in Gitega constructed through the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Funds (GGP) was held on 25th September 2014. A grant contract extending funds amounting to 116,620 US dollars to the implementing organization had been signed on 14th February 2013. The ceremony commenced with ribbon cutting by HE Mr. Tatsushi Terada, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Burundi and Dr Cloé Ndayikunda, Assistant Minister for Health and Fight Against HIV of the Republic of Burundi. Ambassador Terada also unveiled the plaque and toured the new facilities which included an administrative block and an outpatient wing. Guests were entertained by Burundi traditional drummers. In her speech, the National Director of ABUBEF Ms. Delphine Maniratunga expressed sincere gratitude to the government of Japan and said that the project would benefit a great number of women in Gitega province. Ambassador Terada congratulated the organization and the local community for the successful completion of the project. He noted that with an average fertility rate of 6 children per woman in Burundi, the country was indeed in dire need of specialized reproductive health care facilities. The Burundian Assistant Minister for Health and Fight Against HIV thanked the government of Japan for the support and congratulated ABUBEF for its contribution towards the improvement of living conditions of the beneficiary community. |
