Economic Cooperation Media Tour (15th October, 2015)
On 15th October, the Embassy organized the first ever economic cooperation media tour to showcase Japan’s assistance focusing on the Water and Sanitation (WATSAN) sector in Rwanda. Nine journalists from various media participated in the tour (Newspapers: the New Times, East African Business Week, Imvaho Nshya, and Umuseke, TV: Rwanda TV, Radios: Radio Rwanda, City Radio, and KT Radio, Online News Sites: Igihe, and Kigali Today) .
The participants visited two water supply facilities that had been constructed by the grant aid project namely the first and second phases of the Rural Water Supply Project, exchanged opinions with water service providers to whom Japan had supported through its technical cooperation project and residents of the benefiting communities, and joined a hygiene class led by a member of Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) at a primary school in Kayonza District.
Ambassador Ota said that Japan continues to provide assistance to Rwanda to help achieve the country’s national target of universal access to clean water by 2017.
The grant aid project entitled the first and second phases of the Rural Water Supply Project that was implemented in four Districts (Ngoma, Kayonza, Rwamagana and Kirehe) in the Easter Province has been benefiting about 98,000 residents in those districts. In addition to the grant aid projects, Japan has contributed to improving the WATSAN sector including increasing access to safe water through its technical cooperation projects and deployment of JOCVs in Rwanda.
