Message from Ambassador

宮下大使

It is my great pleasure to be here as the new Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Rwanda. During my diplomatic career, although I have mainly worked in German speaking countries as a German-specialized diplomat, I was lucky enough to have close ties also with Africa countries. In fact, for me Rwanda is the third post in Africa after Zambia and South Africa. I feel like “Time flies like an arrow” as it has been already 20 years since my first step into this Continent.

Rwanda is a relatively small country in terms of its surface and population. However, 22 years after the atrocious Genocide against Tutsi, Rwanda has been achieving a remarkable economic growth and now it is called “Africa’s Singapore”. The country has joined the Commonwealth in 2009 and English is one of the official languages. Some call around 7 % of the annual economic growth in recent years as “miracle of Africa”. Under the leadership of President Kagame, Rwanda sets ICT as a fundamental pillar of its strategy for nation building, which makes me expect further collaboration in various fields between Japan and Rwanda.

Recently, Japanese enterprises have been demonstrating a strong interest in Rwanda. In this context, through this website, the Embassy of Japan in Rwanda would like to provide additionally useful information for those Japanese companies planning to invest in Rwanda. The Embassy welcomes your comments and suggestions for improving our website, and I highly appreciate your continued supports.
