Cooperation: The Grant for the Economic and Social Development （September 8, 2016）

On September 8, 2016, the Ambassador of Japan and the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning of Rwanda signed the Grant for the Economic and Social Development Programme which amounts up to 270 Million Japanese Yen (approximately 2.68 Million USD)
According to this Exchange of Notes, Japan will provide the Rwandan National Police with Japanese Products such as Cybersecurity supervision and analyzing tools as well as face recognition equipments, etc., which not only contributes to the borders’ management and the maintenance of internal security of Rwanda but also promote the economic and social development.
This support marks the second in a kind in terms of Japanese aid in cybersecurity sector after the “Project of the Construction of Cybersecurity Center” financed by Japanese counterpart fund in 2015. As Rwanda attaches a great importance to the promotion of ICT for the development of the country, the threat of cybercrimes and the urgent need to prevent any interstate organized crimes are increasing.
Japan has pledged 500 Million USD in support for Peace and Stability of Africa and this signing is an example which concretizes this effort.
