Ambassador Miyashita is briefed about the substation
On June 29, the Embassy organized a press tour for the local media of Rwanda. The tour visited two project sites of Japanese grant aid project, “Project for Improvement of Substations and Distribution Network”, in Jabana (Kigali) where the existing substation was upgraded, and Musha (Eastern Province) where a new substation was constructed. During the tour, Ambassador Miyashita accompanied eight reporters from local newspapers, TVs, radios, and online news sites of Rwanda.

The upgrade of the two substations was completed in March 2014, and they have contributed to improving the efficiency of electricity transmission. As a result, more than 150,000 individuals were newly connected to the electricity. At present, Phase II of the project is also under the implementation, which aims to provide the stable electricity mainly to Kigali Special Economic Zone. Furthermore, feasibility study for Phase III of the project is also being conducted. As one of the lead development partners of Rwanda, Japan is committed to support the energy sector of Rwanda.
