 The Embassy of Japan in Rwanda hosted the Japan Film Festival at Goethe-Institut in Kigali from February 7 to 9, 2018. This year, the festival screened two animation movies “Spirited Away” (Hayao Miyazaki) and “Children Who Chase Lost Voices” (Makoto Shinkai) under the theme of “Japanese Animation Movies.”
 Each day, many Rwandans and members of the diplomatic corps in Kigali turned up to watch the movies, filling the auditorium, sometimes beyond its capacity. After screening each movie, the audience gave big applause.

 Before the first screening, Ambassador Miyashita introduced the movie “Spirited Away” which received the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2003 and explained the story is based on the idea of polytheism, which comes from Japanese Shinto. He briefly introduced the movie “Children Who Chase Lost Voices” as well and expressed his wish for everyone to enjoy these two Japanese animation movies.
