Ambassador Miyashita visits Fukushima Prefecture

From January 28 to 29, Ambassador Miyashita visited Fukushima City and Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture. This visit was realized in collaboration with “Think about Education in RWANDA,” a Japanese NPO engaged in educational activities in Rwanda.

On January 28, Ambassador Miyashita paid courtesy calls to Mr. Masao Uchibori, Governor of Fukushima Prefecture and Mr. Masato Shinagawa, Mayor of Koriyama City, to conduct a lively and significant exchange of opinions. At the city hall of Koriyama, the Ambassador addressed his speech on the actual issues in Rwanda to around 140 citizens from within and outside the city. He also participated in a gathering of the representatives of the prefecture and city of Fukushima as well as other organizations engaged in international exchange and cooperation in Fukushima prefecture.

On the following day, January 29, Ambassador Miyashita had an exchange of opinions with Mr. Hiroshi Kohata, Mayor of Fukushima City on a courtesy call. He then visited students and teachers at Sakura no Seibo Junior College, and gave a speech which focused on what Japan should learn from Rwanda that was delivered and played up in different newspapers and television Programs by Many media based in the prefecture who attended this event.

Ms. Emi Kaneko, member of the House of Representatives, also accompanied the Ambassador for part of his itinerary.
