The inauguration ceremony of the Project for Construction of Nnyacyonga Health Center took place in Jabana sector, Gasabo district, Kigali city on February 13, 2019. The Government of Japan provided USD 77,958 for the project, which was implemented by Association Rwandaise pour le Developpement Rural (ARDR). Under the project, a maternity block was constructed and medical equipment (1 open care warmer, 2 delivery beds, 2 metallic cupboard, 15 hospital beds) were purchased at Nyacyonga Health Center in order to reduce the number of pregnant women who have to give birth without appropriate health facilities.

H.E. Mr. Takayuki Miyashita, Ambassador of Japan to Rwanda, said in his remarks, “I am delighted to observe that the construction of the maternity block was completed successfully so that pregnant women can deliver their babies safely. In order to construct this new maternity block, the Embassy of Japan was happy to work with ARDR since the project success was driven by their professionalism. Last month when H.E. Mr. Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda visited Japan, the two countries issued a joint statement, which constitutes a firm base for the bilateral relations and declares health is one of the important pillars so that Japan will contribute to development of this area for the better future of the Rwandan population,”added Ambassador Miyashita.

Overview of the ceremony
The legal representative of ARDR, Mr. Mnyurangabo, appreciated the assistance of the Government of Japan. The Vice Mayor of Gasabo, Mr. Mberabahizi offered their gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for all the support and hoped that Rwanda and Japan would continue to have a close relationship.
