On March 12, H.E. Mr. Takayuki Miyashita, Ambassador of Japan, signed a grant contract amounting up to 82,822 USD with Association des parents Adventistes de Ruhango pour le Développement de l’Education (APARUDE) in order to construct a girls’ dormitory in Ruhango district.

APARUDE operates College de Bethel-Aparude which has a TVET school in Ruhango district. Through this project, a brand-new girls’ dormitory will be built in the school and 600 girls’ students can live in the dormitory in order to receive vocational trainings.

H.E. Mr. Miyashita said in his remark, “Fulfilling demands for vocational trainings is Rwanda’s national strategy. The girls’ dormitory will help to increase the number of female vocational training students who wish to be skilled workers.” He also said that women and girls make up half of the population but hold less than half of the seats at vocational training levels. As the empowerment of women is our important pillars, I hope this project will contribute to boost the number of skilled female workers and it will be an engine of Rwanda’s development.

Mr. Nkurunziza, Legal Representative of APARUDE, expressed his appreciation for Japan’s grant. The school was established in 1995. Now it has 1200 boys and girls students. Under the leadership of the government of Rwanda in a field of vocational trainings for girls, the school also tried to contribute to vocational trainings for them but a lack of a capacity for a dormitory dragged them behind. Through the project, they are happy to construct a girls’ dormitory for 600 students for their better educational environments. He also promised his commitment towards the vocational training improvement for the female students.
