Cooperation: The Grant for the Economic and Social Development
On July 30, 2020, H.E. Mr. Masahiro IMAI, Ambassador of Japan to Rwanda and Hon. Dr. Uzziel NDAGIJIMANA, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning signed the Grant for the Economic and Social Development Programme which amounts up to 300 Million Japanese Yen (approximately 2.8 Million USD).
 
Japan will provide medical equipment in order to contribute to strengthening Rwandan health system in the fight against COVID19, based on the needs of the Government of Rwanda,
 
Minister NDAGIJIMANA said “we would like to express our gratitude toward the Japanese grant in a timely manner. Countries all over the world have been suffering from COVID19, which has severe impact on human beings and health systems as well as supply chains. Under these circumstances, Japan does not forget not only to bolster its own country but also to extend support to others and the Government of Rwanda appreciates it. Japan and Rwanda have built a good relationship with each other and this support proves our solidarity.”
 
 Ambassador IMAI said “Japan appreciates great ownership for measures taken against COVID19 by Rwanda and the selfless efforts of health workers in Rwanda. Japan has supported in a variety of fields. This year is important since it marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Embassy of Japan in Rwanda. On this occasion, we would like to take a new step toward our relationship. In the future, we would like to cooperate to promote private investments in the health sector as well.”
