On June 6th 2024, READ JAPAN PROJECT book handover ceremony was held at the University of Rwanda, Remera Campus. Mr. Shunsuke SAITO, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan in Rwanda, attended the ceremony, and about 20 people from the University of Rwanda including Professor Abraham Haileamlak MITIKE, Principal of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, participated in it.

The Nippon Foundation has conducted this project since 2008 to promote understanding of Japan among opinion leaders and intellectuals overseas through donation of books related to Japan written in English. On this occasion, 102 books were donated to the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Rwanda.

Mr. SAITO stated that Japan and Rwanda have been good development partners since the establishment of diplomatic relations and have been cooperating in various fields. He expressed his expectation that those who read the donated books will become connected with Japan and become a bridge between the two countries.

Professor Abraham Haileamlak MITIKE expressed his gratitude for Japan's support on education as well as this book donation, and hope for further cooperation in the future.

A cocktail reception took place after the ceremony, which provided an opportunity to interact with college leaderships, current students and Japanese Scholarship Alumni.
