Inauguration Ceremony of “The Project for Strengthening Nzove-Ntora Principal Water Transmission Pipeline in Kigali City”

 On March 20, 2024, H.E. Ambassador Fukushima attended the inauguration ceremony of the Grant Aid " Strengthening Nzove-Ntora Principal Water Transmission Pipeline in Kigali City" held at Nzove Water Treatment Plant in Kigali City.
 
 This project is part of "The Project for Water Supply Master Plan for City of Kigali" with the target year of 2050, and aims to improve access to water by constructing new water transmission pipelines, strengthening existing pipes and improving other water-related facilities. In this project, a large water transmission pipeline with a diameter of 900 mm and a length of approximately 9.4 km was newly constructed from the Nzove Water Treatment Plant to the Ntora Reservoir. Water will be distributed from this reservoir to various areas in Kigali City, benefiting approximately 440,000 people.

At the ceremony, Ambassador Fukushima said, our cooperation in the water sector is in line with Japan's development cooperation guiding principle of Human Security. I am aware that the Government of Rwanda is making various efforts to improve the water sector, but there is still room for improvement. Japan is supporting the formulation of a master plan to address water-related issues and improve the water sector utilizing Japanese advanced technologies. Lastly, it is the hope of the Government and people of Japan to see the people of Rwanda having access to clean water and becoming prosperous country.

 Mr. Abimana, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure remarked that, Japan's cooperation in the water sector has been a great contribution to Rwanda. Access to water is a human right, and improving access to water enhances people's health and wellbeing. Furthermore, water issues are closely related with climate issues and thus, by addressing the issues, national prosperity, and this project will bring a bright future to Rwanda. I would like to thank the Government of Japan, JICA, and Japanese companies for this support.
 
 Ms. Shiotsuka, Chief Representative of JICA Rwanda Office said, I am pleased, that through this project, we were able to bring benefits to many people, improve the skills of the construction workers, and build a good relationship between Rwanda and Japan in the water sector. We hope to continue to build on our good relationship and make this project sustainable.
