GGP: Inauguration of the Construction of a Community Center aimed at Empowering the Genocide Widows (June 27, 2016)

On June 27th, the inauguration ceremony of the Project entitled the “Construction of a Community Center aimed at Empowering the Genocide Widows” took place in Kanombe Sector, Kicukiro District, Kigali. The Association de Veuves du Genocide AGAHOZO, the recipient of the fund, has completed to construct a conference hall, three workshop rooms, and toilets funded by the Government of Japan, as well as additional buildings including a lodge, administration rooms, a restaurant and a kitchen. This facility will enable genocide widows to assemble among themselves regularly in order to hold workshops for income-generating activities and showcase their products.

Mr. Sakamoto, Chargé d’Affaires a.i of the Embassy, said in his remarks, “we expect that this facility will be fully used for vulnerable women to empower themselves through different activities, and I believe such an opportunity will contribute to alleviate their trauma and support their reintegration into the society.” Ms. Valerie MUKABAYIRE, Chairperson of AVEGA AGAHOZO, expressed her gratitude for the support of the Government of Japan, and said that such partnership will greatly support vulnerable women, consequently it will also contribute to the well-being of their families and vulnerable people in Rwanda. The Representative of Busanza Sector said “we appreciate the partnership with the Government of Japan, and we are happy to see the completion of such a meaningful facility in our sector.”
