Ambassador Miyashita who was on two-day trip to Hyogo Prefecture visited the Kobe Institute of Computing (KIC) and OTOWA Electric Co., Ltd in December 2016, and met with the Mayor of Kobe, Mr. Kizo Hisamoto.

The KIC accepts 12 Rwanda students today on scholarships of the Japanese Ministry of Education and the African Business Education (ABE) initiatives for youth. Ambassador Miyashita interacted with these Rwandan students and gave a lecture to foreign students on Japanese diplomacy toward Africa.

OTOWA Electric Co., Ltd, Japan’s leading company for lightening protection, assisted Tumba College of Technology in Rwanda in installing surge protection devices. Ambassador Miyashita learned that the company initiated such cooperation because a Rwandan intern from KIC told the company that Rwanda is one of the countries with the most serious damages from lightening in the world.

The Mayor of Kobe, Mr. Kizo Hisamoto, visited Kigali in May 2016 and, together with the Mayor of Kigali, Ms. Mukaruliza, signed the “Joint declaration of Partnership toward creating innovation ecosystem and bridging Africa and Japan” with aim to enhance the cooperation between two cities. Ambassador Miyashita thanked Mayor Hisamoto for his leadership in this cooperation and promised him to continue supporting Kobe’s efforts.
