2017/3/13

On March 8, the 12th Annual Japan-Rwanda Policy Dialogue on Development Cooperation was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. The dialogue was co-chaired by Ambassador Miyashita and Mr. Claude Nikobisanzwe, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. The dialogue was attended by more than 30 officials from The Rwandan ministries and agencies as well as the Embassy of Japan and JICA office, including Mr. Hiroyuki Takada, JICA’s Chief Representative.
The policy dialogue started in 2004 and has been held with the participation of high level officials. Its purpose is to achieve effective development cooperation based on Japan’s ODA policy and Rwanda’s development policy. During the dialogue, the Government of Rwanda presented the status of its macro economy as well as the achievements Rwanda has made under the second Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy (EDPRSII), and Vision 2050 which was discussed at the last leadership retreat. The Government of Japan explained the follow-ups on the 6th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD VI) which was held in August 2016 in Nairobi, Kenya. Moreover, the participants exchanged views on various issues, including four priority areas of Japan’s development policy toward Rwanda; economic infrastructure development, agriculture development, social service improvement, and human resource development for sustaining country growth.
In particular, the participants discussed how Japan’s commitments at the TICAD VI should be implemented in Rwanda, and both sides agreed to continue to cooperate with a view to providing economic development of Rwanda and the wellbeing of the Rwandan people, taking advantage of the achievement of TICAD VI.
