Successful students for ABE Initiative fourth batch
On August 23, 2017, a joint send-off ceremony for 13 Rwandan students and 2 Burundian students of ABE Initiative fourth batch was held at Serena Hotel in Kigali. After completing their Master’s program in several fields such as ICT for Rwandan students, the priority areas for the Government of Rwanda, and medical and engineering studies for Burundian students, they will get an opportunity to do internships in the Japanese companies for about 6 months.

Ambassador Miyashita said, in his remark, “ABE initiative is one of the main programs Japan offer to support the capacity building of African youth. I am very pleased to announce that the commitment made during TICAD V which promised to receive 1,000 African students in the Master’s program in Japan has been implemented well and Japan has also decided to continue this great program during TICAD VI. I wish the 15 students from Rwanda and Burundi will contribute to strengthening Japan-Rwanda, Japan-Burundi relations as well as the development of both countries.”

Participants to the ceremony include ex-participants to ABE Initiative who completed the program and returned to Rwanda, and Japanese private sector based in Rwanda. A lunch session following the ceremony offered a good networking opportunity for all participants for the future cooperation.
