GGP: Handing Over Ceremony of the Project for the Expansion of Kidasha Health Center (22th June 2016)

On June 22, 2016, a Handing Over Ceremony of the Project for the Expansion of Kidasha Health Center (the amount 97,403 USD) was held with the participation of Mr. Sakamoto, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Japan in Burundi. For this project, Japan financed the Eglise de Dieu du 7ème jour, a NGO who has been supporting development, healthcare, poverty reduction to promote peace in rural areas, for the construction of an outpatient and maternity wards and procurement of a binocular microscope, a joint fridge for vaccines and other medical equipment.

In his speech, Mr. Sakamoto commended the NGO and the people for their efforts despite the country facing difficult times. The Representatives from the Ministry of Public Health and the Fight against AIDS, Muyinga province and Giteranyi Commune expressed appreciation this support by the government of Japan.

The Kidasha Health Center is located in Giteranyi commune, Muyinga province, which is very northeast and far from the capital Bujumbura but instead sharing border with Rwanda and Tanzania. For the residents of Giteranyi commune, it takes at least a few hours to reach a large town even if it is an emergency situation. Members of the Embassy of Japan who attended the ceremony from Kigali, Rwandan capital, drove 3.5 hours while guests from Bujumbura said that it had taken them 5-6 hours.

This project contribute to improve the local health services by expanding hospital services and consultation capabilities.
